Club Enrollment FAQs

How do I enroll my club?

Send an email to admin @ sailchart.org with details about your club, the types of sail races you run and your location.

How much does Sailchart cost?

Sailchart is free to use but we encourage clubs to obtain sponsorship.

How does sponsorship work?

  • You obtain sponsorship for the club and retain 100% of the funds raised.
  • We encourage you to use funds raised to support youth sailing programmes.
  • Sponsorship can be for a set period of time and either at the club level or for individual races.
  • Sponsors logos are displayed on the race analysis page and when viewing race playback.

How much sponsorship should we aim for?

We do not set an amount, but the cost saving compared to a commercially available app is considerable, so consider this in deciding an appropriate amount. Contact us for recommendations.

Can we try it out before committing to sponsorship?

Yes.

What are the setup activities to start using Sailchart?

  1. We will create a club account and send you a club access code.
  2. You nominate a club administrator who registers their Sailchart account and then completes the club setup.
  3. One-off setup tasks include defining your fleets and standard race course marks.
  4. You add in your scheduled races before they start, either one-by-one or via a file upload. For example you could upload your entire race programme for the season , or define them individually prior to race day.
  5. Once each race has finished, the club administrator needs to flag the race as completed and define the race course sailed so that per-leg analysis can be calculated.

Are there any user guides?

Yes. There is a User Guide and Club Administration Guide.

What type of sail races is Sailchart suitable for?

  • Sailchart is designed for short duration dinghy races, typically less than 3 hours long. All races have to complete on the same day, so it is not suitable for races that span more than 1 day.
  • Sailchart uploads race tracking data in real-time using the internet connection from the phone or GPS tracker. If there are areas with no phone coverage, it buffers the data and sends it when a connection becomes available. However during this time, live viewing is not available. It is not recommended for off-shore racing or in areas with no phone coverage.
